Birmingham Airport shareholder bids for soccer centres

ONE of the major shareholders in Birmingham Airport is set to buy out a chain of football centres around the UK.

Goals Soccer Centres confirmed weekend press speculation this morning that it had received an approach from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan to acquire the business.

Goals, which is based in Scotland, has two centres in Birmingham – in Perry Barr and at Star City, plus outlets in Wolverhampton, Dudley, Coventry and Stoke.

The statement said: “The board of Goals notes the recent press speculation regarding a possible offer for the company by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.

“The company confirms that it has received a preliminary approach from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan that may or may not lead to an offer being made. There can be no certainty that an offer will be made for Goals, nor as to the terms on which an offer may be made.

“A further announcement will be made as and when appropriate.”
An initial deadline for developments has been set as 5pm on Monday April 30.
Canaccord Genuity Ltd is acting as adviser to Goals Soccer Centres in the matter.
