JCB to recruit 350 new staff to meet UK demand

EXCAVATOR manufacturer JCB is to recruit 350 new workers to meet rising demand across its seven UK factories.

The Staffordshire-based group said a wide variety of positions were available at its World Headquarters in Rocester, together with its JCB Earthmovers site in Cheadle, JCB Cab Systems in Rugeley, JCB Power Systems in Derbyshire, JCB Heavy Products in Uttoxeter and JCB Transmissions in Wrexham.

The jobs, which are available through recruitment agency Blue Arrow, include welders, machinists, paint sprayers, fabricators, assemblers and forklift truck drivers.

A JCB spokesman said: “As a result of rising demand for JCB products around the world, up to 350 new skilled positions are available at UK factories.  The positions are available with immediate effect.”

In the past year JCB’s UK workforce has increased by more than 850 people and currently stands at around 6,300, excluding the 350 new positions.

The recruitment is further evidence of the company’s continuing growth and comes just weeks after the firm secured one of its largest ever orders, to supply more than 1,000 of its backhoe loaders to the Brazilian Government in a deal worth in excess of £60m.

The company has also recently celebrated its 27th Queen’s Award – a record for a UK company. The award honours an increase in overseas sales of almost 150% from 2009 to 2011.
