Lord’s Taverners set to bowl over guests at Edgbaston

WEST Indies and Somerset cricketing legend Sir Viv Richards together with former England captain turned commentator Michael Vaughan are amongst the cricketing greats taking part in a special fundraising event at Warwickshire’s Edgbaston Stadium.

The 2012 Eve of Edgbaston Test Dinner tomorrow is being hosted by commentator and broadcaster, Jonathan Agnew, and this year will celebrate all that is great about test matches between England and the West Indies.

Simon Gill, Regional Chairman for The Lord’s Taverners in the West Midlands, and a Partner at law firm Gateley, said: “Our Eve of Test Match Dinner is always a great night for entertainment, generous donations and phenomenal fundraising.

“We are thrilled that Sir Viv Richards, Michael Vaughan and Aggers are able to join us for this very special event, which we hope will once again raise a substantial sum to help The Lord’s Taverners continue to deliver projects that support disadvantaged young people and grass roots cricket.”

The Lord’s Taverners is the official charity for recreational cricket and the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity. Its objective is to give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance.

This year The Lord’s Taverners will donate nearly £3m to help young people of all abilities and backgrounds participate in sporting activities by channelling funding into specific schemes. These include encouraging participation in youth cricket, particularly in disadvantaged areas – providing grants towards non-turf pitches, funding for youth cricket competitions and donating hundreds of cricket bags to clubs and school teams across the UK.

The charity will also be supporting recreational and sporting activities for youngsters with special needs by donating specially adapted minibuses and sports wheelchairs to young people vital transportation and access to sport, and providing grants for play and sports equipment.
