Patisserie Valerie opens 54th outlet

BIRMINGHAM-owned bakery chain Patisserie Valerie has expanded with the opening of a new retail outlet.

The company’s new café in Reading is the 54th outlet in the chain and the new business has helped create 25 new jobs.

Patisserie Valerie’s Chief Executive Paul May said the new outlet had proved an instant hit with the people of Reading.

“In the few days the store has been open, we’ve seen a fantastic response from the people of Reading and business is definitely booming,” he said.

Mr May said he was hoping the strong levels of business would be sustained over the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday.

The latest opening comes after a year in which the company has continued to expand beyond its London base, with over a 50% increase in the number of outlets across the country.

“We are especially pleased that despite the current climate of doom and gloom, we have been able to bring investment and new jobs to the UK’s high streets,” said Mr May.

“If anything, the enthusiasm of the public has taken us by surprise so we have continued to look for high quality shopping venues in which to open.

“Everybody likes to indulge in a treat, which is essentially what Patisserie Valerie is all about. All of this puts us in a different market place from any other chain and is why we have been able to gain so many new customers in the last year and continue to provide much needed jobs.”
