German firm acquires Transys Projects

BIRMINGHAM-based rail vehicle engineering firm Transys Projects Limited (TPL) has become the latest local firm to be snapped up by a foreign buyer.

It has been bought by Germany’s Vossloh Kiepe, a manufacturer of electrical traction equipment for trams, trolleybuses and other transport vehicles, for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition is part of the German company’s strategy to establish a strong presence in the UK and to develop and enhance the opportunities in mainline rail vehicle modernisation.

Its CEO Andrew Bunse said: “TPL’s outstanding capabilities in rail systems engineering and modernisation complements our expertise and competence in electrical equipment and systems for rail vehicles.

“The purchase agreement with TPL has grown from a very successful partnership and both partners are expecting that the acquisition will create long-term synergies.”

Vossloh Kiepe is a major supplier of rail vehicle systems and currently provides traction equipment for light rapid transit vehicles in Manchester, Croydon and Edinburgh.

TPL managing director Graham Roberts said: “Vossloh Kiepe can now benefit from TPL’s rail vehicle expertise and relationships within the UK market. Moreover, Vossloh’s excellent market reputation and financial capacity allow participation in large-scale projects which TPL alone would never have been able to access.”
