Five local Clinton Cards shops to close

FIVE Clinton Cards stores in the West Midlands are to be shut down, the retailer’s administrator has said.

Two shops in Shrewsbury and stores in Nuneaton, Cannock and Rugeley will close along with 38 other shops around the UK, Zolfo Cooper announced.

The shops were not included in the sale of 397 Clinton Cards shops to Lakeshore Lending last week.That sales secured the future of 36 West Midlands stores.

Zolfo Cooper was appointed administrator of Clinton Cards and its subsidiaries – including Birthdays – on May 9.

The 330 stores not included in the sale to Lakeshore Lending remained under the control of Zolfo Cooper and following the announcement that 43 of them will close, the administrator will now focus its efforts on the remaining 287 shops identified as part of the closure programme.

Lakeshore Lendings is a subsidiary of Ohio-based card company American Greetings, which was one of Clinton Cards’ largest suppliers.
