Roofing and cladding specialist Apex goes under

BIRMINGHAM contractor Apex Roofing and Cladding has been placed in administration.

The Nechells-based firm, established more than 35 years ago, installed more than 100,000 sq m of roofing and cladding each year, working on a mix of projects for contractors such as Bam, Carillion and Ocon.

Reports in the construction press suggest up to 50 staff and workers have been laid off after the firm ran into cash flow problems caused by payment delays with a main contractor.

Apex is part of the AWI group which also owned Perry Barr, Birmingham-based InnerHouse Surfacing, a surfacing and civil engineering company, which is also in administration.

Apex had recently won a contract with David Wilson Mercia to roof around 80 new homes at the former Moor Green Football Club site in Birmingham.

Its other local projects include Crest Nicholson’s Park Central development in Birmingham, the Village Hotel in Walsall and refurbishment work at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant.
