Apprentices sought as Wesleyan extends its training scheme

BIRMINGHAM-based insurer Wesleyan Assurance Society is looking for more apprentices to join the company as its trainee scheme continues for a third year.

Wesleyan – which specialises in providing insurance to professionals such as doctors and dentists – is looking to recruit trainees to take part in its latest 12-month programme. They will be placed in either the Wesleyan Bank, general insurance or customer services divisions.

Since 2010, 17 people have joined the scheme, working at the city centre head office, as they work towards an NVQ Level 2 in business administration or providing financial services. All apprentices are moved into specific permanent roles once they complete the programme.

The scheme has been designed to provide an alternative route for young people to kick-start a career in financial services, in association with the National Skills Academy for Financial Services, with support from Birmingham Metropolitan College.

Liz McKenzie, director of HR & corporate planning, said: “The Wesleyan apprenticeship scheme is ideal for any young person wanting to start a career in financial services and receive on the job training. It’s also a great way for us to grow our own talent and boost skills levels in the financial services sector.

“The two years we’ve been running the scheme have produced some excellent employees and we are delighted to see them flourish as they progress through the company.”
