Delcam maintains top three position in CAM vendor listings

BIRMINGHAM firm Delcam has been confirmed as the third largest vendor of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software globally.

The developer and supplier of software solutions for product development and manufacture was confirmed in the position by global consultancy CIMdata, Inc. in an annual industry report on CAM software vendors.

This is the fourth consecutive year in which Delcam has held this position.

According to the CIMdata report, Delcam’s share of the CAM marketplace in 2011 increased to 7%, from 6.7% in 2010, placing Delcam in third position behind the two market leaders, whose combined market share totalled 32%.

For 2012, CIMdata predicts that Delcam will increase its market share, making the firm one of only two vendors in the top ten vendor rankings expected by CIMdata to increase market share.

CIMdata, which tracks approximately 60 CAM software vendors for its annual reports, estimated that the total value of CAM software and services purchased by end-users grew by 10.2% in 2011 to $1,469m, reflecting the rebound in manufacturing in most regions of the global economy.

Delcam chief executive Clive Martell said:  “I believe that our successful track record is underpinned by the value we place on software research and development.

“This means that we believe we have developed the world’s most comprehensive collection of machining software and each of our programs is the most productive for the individual sectors in which we operate.”
