Clarke Willmott puts commercial nous at the heart of its plans

THE Birmingham office of law firm Clarke Willmott has unveiled a three-year investment and growth strategy as part of a wider plan across the group.

The plan involves growing the Birmingham team in areas such as retail and commercial as well as creating a school of management to enhance the commerciality of legal advice.

Jonathan Morton, head of the Birmingham office, said: “We have recently added lawyers of real standing in commercial and private client teams. These legal experts are coming into a firm and an office that has big ambitions and a clear vision for the next three years and beyond.”

Morton said the business is focusing on strengthening the commercial awareness of its lawyers by delivering high-level insight and training to help its lawyers identify value-creation opportunities for clients that arise out of the legal process.

Birmingham will also benefit from the firm’s £1m investment in IT systems, designed to improve service-delivery for clients.

Stephen Rosser, chief executive of Clarke Willmott, said: “The whole legal sector has gone through a challenging period in the past two years, with modernisation on the agenda of many firms. The need to change traditional business models in the legal sector is reflected in our strategy for growth.

“Our clients have always rated and valued the commerciality of the advice we give them, and it is right to build on that.

“Our aim is to deliver high level legal expertise underpinned by strong commercial acumen and entrepreneurial flair. That’s what we are doing in the Birmingham office and across the whole firm.”

Clarke Willmott has six offices nationally. Alongside its Birmingham office are centres in London, Bristol, Southampton, Taunton and Manchester.
