DOUBLE Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt thanked the people of Birmingham after winning the second of his gold medals in the 200m final.

DOUBLE Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt thanked the people of Birmingham after winning the second of his gold medals in the 200m final.

Jamaica’s Olympic team was based at the University of Birmingham before the games and took part in a number of training sessions in front of the public as well as attending other events.

Bolt said the city helped athletes do their best. Team-mates Yohan Blake and Warren Weir, who won silver and bronze respectively, also praised the city.

Bolt said: “They were extremely great to us, [showed] us a lot of love and thank you guys.

“You guys [helped] us to come out and do our best.”
