Galleon sets sail for Europe

A COVENTRY-based cleaning supplies business is looking to expand in Europe after sourcing translation support for its website.

Galleon Supplies distributes hygiene and janitorial products to a number of healthcare and blue chip clients in the UK and Europe, selling directly to end users including doctors’ surgeries, dentists and veterinarians.

The company has employed language specialist Comtec Translations, based in Leamington Spa, to translate its website, making it more accessible to a growing portfolio of customers in France and Germany.

Galleon is already reaping the rewards of its investment. Revenue from exports represents 10% of the company’s annual turnover – a figure that is set to rise if the business realises its ambitions of further European expansion.

The company has also relocated to a new 10,000 sq ft office and distribution facility on Eden Street in Coventry, from its previous base in Long Itchington, Warwickshire.

Galleon’s Jason Caddy said:  “We had already expanded our distribution network to Ireland and the next logical step was to look at the French and German markets.

“Now that we have settled into our new facility, we’ll be moving forward with our strategy of growth, confident that, with Comtec’s help, we can spread our reach across Europe.”

Sophie Howe, director of Comtec, said that businesses shouldn’t underestimate the benefit of ‘localising’ their websites.

She said: “There are 2.1bn internet users worldwide and tens of millions of businesses online. The fact that over half of all Google searches are made in a language other than English, means that businesses are potentially missing out on customers if they do not translate their website.”
