Coventry and Warwickshire LEP keen to get transport priorities right

BUSINESS leaders and stakeholders are being invited to influence and shape transport strategy in Coventry and Warwickshire up to and beyond 2019 at an event in the city.
In order to secure funding for major transport schemes between 2015 and 2019, a list of the sub-region’s priorities must be submitted to the Department of Transport by April 2013.
To ensure these priorities meet with the needs of businesses and stakeholders, the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership has organised an event where these priorities will be discussed.
Alan Farnell, leader of Warwickshire County Council and LEP board member, and John McNicholas, chair of the LEP Transport Group and Coventry City councillor, will host the event at Coventry Transport Museum between 8.30am and 1.30pm on Friday, September 28.
Cllr Farnell said: “The level of funding available to implement major transport schemes between 2015 and 2019 will only be sufficient to deliver a limited number of schemes during that period.
“However, in that time additional funding opportunities are likely to arise and we need to establish a comprehensive and fully prioritised list of schemes to allow us to take advantage of them.
“This is the opportunity for local businesses and stakeholders to ensure they are represented and have their say in which issues should be addressed.”
Cllr McNicholas, who also chairs the West Midlands Local Transport Authority, will lead the discussion on issues affecting the transport agenda in the sub-region.
He said: “It’s important that we bring together decision makers and those involved in transport strategy planning to discuss the needs of the sub-region where transport is concerned.
“As well as addressing existing transport issues we are also keen to hear suggestions for any new transport schemes that businesses would like to see delivered in Coventry and Warwickshire in the future.
This work is important for our local area now and as we go forward in close co-operation with our West Midlands colleagues.”
