Edgbaston promises cricket fans 2013 games will be just the ticket

OFFICIALS at Edgbaston will be hoping fans’ disappointment at the venue’s lack of Test Matches next summer does not dampen enthusiasm for what could be a festival of cricket.

Despite having no five-day matches in its 2013 schedule, the stadium still has an exciting line-up of games which it hopes will pull in the crowds both locally and nationally – if not internationally.

Tickets for two of next summer’s showpiece fixtures – the Friends Life t20 Finals Day and England’s NatWest Series ODI against Australia – go on general sale on Thursday.

Edgbaston has secured the t20 final for the next four years, with next year’s event taking place on Saturday August 17. The stadium hosts England’s NatWest Series ODI battle with Australia on Wednesday September 11.

Guy Wolfenden, Head of Commercial at Edgbaston, said: “Since its introduction 10 years, Friends Life t20 cricket has become the marquee event in domestic cricket, with three games in a day, great entertainment and the all-important county mascot race. With an England ODI match against Australia set to follow in September, there’s obviously much to look forward to at Edgbaston in 2013.”

In addition to these two competitions, Edgbaston is also hosting five matches – including the final – of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Tickets for these matches go on-sale on November 5.
