Zombie game wins £25,000 LAUNCH prize

THE creators of a computer game based around a zombie invasion scooped the £25,000 pilot funding prize at this week’s LAUNCH gaming and digital conference at Birmingham Science Park.

Nosebleed Interactive from Newcastle won the prize with The Horde, a new game based around the concept of world domination by a pack of zombies.

The five finalists of the PlayStation Mobile Prototype competition pitched for the prize. The funding is from Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe, Creative England and  Birmingham Science Park.

The idea of the pilot fund is to be able to deliver a game concept and prototype.  The aim is to have the game ready for full consumer trial by summer 2013.

Dr David Hardman, MBE, CEO of Birmingham Science Park, said: “It’s a great thrill to be able to announce the winner of this new award at the LAUNCH conference. Seeing a company like Sony working with the Creative England development agency to support a gaming start-up is a fantastic example of what LAUNCH is all about.

“We want to celebrate the innovative work being carried out in gaming and bring entrepreneurs and innovators together to share knowledge and collaborate on exciting new projects.”

Andreas Firnigl from Nosebleed Interactive said: “The PSM pioneers funding opportunity will really allow us focus on delivering something unique and exciting, on a brilliant new platform, and with the guiding hand of a world-class publisher.”
