Joinery firm WJL Contracts set for further growth

A STAFFORDSHIRE joinery firm is targeting additional growth after a successful expansion strategy has seen it double turnover in two years.
WJL Contracts, based in Newcastle Under Lyme, is focusing on an increase in marketing activity, aided by the launch of a new website. Should the success be repeated then new jobs could be created.
Sister company Winston Joinery and new venture Acoustic Joinery are also said to have had successful years.
Jamie Lovatt, WJL managing director, said the firm had completed work for some of the UK’s major building contractors.
“We have invested in the marketing and sales side of the business to identify and fully maximize the opportunities that are out there in what has admittedly been a tough market,” he said.
“As a Staffordshire-based business we are committed to employing local people and we hope that we can further grow the team and provide construction opportunities for skilled joiners in the area.”
Recent local successes include securing almost £0.5m of work with Wates Construction on the soon to be completed St Thomas More Catholic College School in Longton and Discovery Academy in Bentilee, which is scheduled for completion in July 2013. Both projects are part of Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s £250m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme.
WJL Contracts was also involved in the completion of the new Premier Inn, in Dale Street, Manchester. This £450,000 joinery fit out contract was carried out for Russells Construction, where the work carried out enabled the project to be handed over nine weeks early.
Through Wates Construction, WJL Contracts has supported Blurton Scout Group, making a financial contribution to enable the scout group to purchase a gas powered fridge for its clubhouse.
WJL Contracts has had a successful year, along with sister company Winston Joinery and new venture Acoustic Joinery. The company plans to keep increasing turnover and looks forward to future success.
