Gateley’s corporate and banking team named most active

CORPORATE and banking lawyers at Gateley’s Midlands offices have been named the most active advisors by volume in an important legal industry monitor.

The firm topped the 2012 Experian Corpfin M&A Advisor League Tables, having led the quarterly tables throughout the year. It had moved up from second place in 2011.

Nationally, the team also improved on its 2011 rankings moving from 9th to secure 6th place out of all law firms by deal volume.  In addition, the firm ranked 6th in the North West and entered the Yorkshire league table for the first time following the opening of its Leeds office.

Michael Ward, senior partner for Gateley in Birmingham, said:  “We are delighted to start the New Year on a high with these two significant legal industry placings and in particular the client satisfaction results.  Our position in this table not only demonstrates our continued commitment as a firm to deliver a first class client service but also our flexibility to respond to our clients’ needs and the demands they face in their own economic environments.

“The last year hasn’t been without its market difficulties but we met our challenges head on whilst maintaining a clear focus on delivering results.  This included building on the excellent relationships we have with our existing clients and developing those relationships we have recently forged through new business partnerships.  We have an excellent team at Gateley who are the bedrock of our culture and commitment to clients and I’m sure they will go on to achieve even better things in the next 12 months.”

The Midlands corporate and banking teams completed a number of high profile transactions including the sale of Amtico International to US floor designer and manufacturer, Mannington Mills; the merger of recruitment groups, Pertemps and Network with investment from LDC and the sale of Aurum Group (Goldsmiths, Watches of Switzerland and Mappin & Webb) to US based private equity firm, Apollo Global Management.
