Key appointment as Birmingham Airport seeks to grow

BIRMINGHAM Airport has appointed Tom Screen as aviation strategy and development manager to help to grow its airline and route network.
He joins Birmingham Airport from Thomson Airways where he has held the position of aviation planning manager since August 2008. He will manage a team of two, reporting to the aviation development director.
His main responsibilities will include overseeing the generation of information to the business for budgeting and forecasting purposes, and identifying market opportunities as the airport continues to develop and attract new carriers.
Commenting on Screen ’s arrival, William Pearson, Birmingham Airport’s aviation development director, said, “I’m confident that Tom will be a great addition to the team and to the business as we strive to deliver growth at the airport and develop our route network.”
In previous roles Screen has worked for Airport Coordination Ltd and First Choice Airways (Air 2000).
Screen said: “The next few years will be exciting times for the company with the runway extension and the development of a high speed rail link to London.
“Birmingham is in a great position to forge ahead as a viable alternative airport for carriers looking to expand services into the UK and I look forward to playing my part in that.”
Meanwhile, Scandinavian Airlines is moving from a mid-afternoon departure to an evening flight from Birmingham airport on the recently launched Birmingham to Stockholm route.
Starting on June 27, the service will operate every day except Saturday.
Martyn Lloyd, commercial director for Birmingham Airport, said: “SAS has responded to the requirements of its customers, particularly business travellers who need to depart later in the evening to accommodate a full working day in either Birmingham or Stockholm.
“I’m confident that this move will be welcomed by customers currently having to fly into airports further away to return home, and we praise the airline for making this change.”
