New members join IAB board

FOUR new business representatives have been elected to the board of the largest Asian business organisation in Greater Birmingham.

Emb Hashmi, of the Asian World newspaper; Dee Kundi, of law firm Irwin Mitchell; Raza U Samar, RUS chartered accountants; and Mashkura Begum, of the Birmingham Leadership Foundation were elected to the board of the Institute of Asian Businesses, part of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group, at its AGM. Each new member will serve at least one year in office.

The quartet join other members of the committee who until the election of the president are: Nasir Awan, of Awan Marketing; Anjum Khan, of Basic Training Centre Ltd, Kashif Latif, Hanged Man Productions; Zaheer Afzal, of St. Philips Chamber; Saqib Bhatti, of Younis Bhatti & Co Ltd, Amina Bukhari, of Acorn Primary School; Aftab Chughtai, of Aftabs; Kamal Hanif, of Waverley School; Ammo Talwar, of Punch and Sarabjeet Soar, of ITM Economic Development Ltd.

At the organisation’s AGM, current president, Nasir Awan said:  “The IAB delivers high quality business services which are complimentary to those offered by Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.

“Asian businesses don’t look for help so encouraging them to join an organisation which provides help and support is difficult.  Asian businesses are playing a greater role in growing the local economy, so the Chamber set up the IAB to bring Asian businesses into the chamber, so that they can contribute to the business voice of Greater Birmingham.”

The IAB works on local issues and now has a national voice as part of the National Asian Business Association, which was launched earlier this year. The lobby group offers the Asian business community a conduit to the Government.
