Memorial Service to be held for former Assay Master

BIRMINGHAM Assay Office has confirmed that a memorial service to former Assay Mater Bernard Ward will take place in July.

Mr Ward, who died in March, served as Assay Master in Birmingham for 15 years between 1983 and 1998.

The service will take place at St Paul’s Church, St Paul’s Square in the city’s Jewellery Quarter at 1pm on Tuesday July 9.

“Bernard will be fondly remembered for many years to come not only by his friends and colleagues at The Birmingham Assay Office but by the whole of the UK jewellery and precious metals industries.  The service will enable everyone to pay tribute to a man who achieved so much during his working life within the jewellery industry,” said the Assay Office in a statement.

Current Assay Master Michael Allchin said Mr Ward had reinvigorated the Assay Office during his time at the helm.

The Assay Office has said full details about the service will be announced in due course.
