Double first for Birmingham’s oldest business club

BIRMINGHAM’S oldest business club has spurned traditional and made a series of historic appointments.

Firstly, St Paul’s Club, based in the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter, has elected Bart Dalton, Principal at Taurus Wealth, as its new President. Dalton becomes the first American to hold the office in the club’s 153-year history.

In a further departure, the club has also made online marketing director Sarah Whitticase its first ever female committee member.

The club has always had the reputation for being traditionally male-orientated, but this has changed in recent years and it is now welcoming more female professionals and business women.

Dalton said he has high ambitions for the club and is keen to use the office to champion the Birmingham business community.

He said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be the first American president St Paul’s club as ever had. I’m excited by the future plans we have to support businesses as the Birmingham business community is thriving.”

The club is aiming to broaden its membership and has arranged a series of business and social events for professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs in the city who are interested in networking and socialising in an informal way.

The programme of events includes fortnightly business lunches and the bi-monthly ‘ladies business lunches’ hosted by Mrs Whitticase.

She said: “I’m very proud to become the first female committee member of what has traditionally been a male only club. I have certainly been made most welcome here, and have already forged some strong business alliances.

“We are growing and our events are open to everyone, including the newly launched Ladies Lunches which are designed to welcome local business women who would like to network in very pleasant surroundings.”

The club has organised a showcase event tomorrow to offer city professionals the opportunity to learn more about how the organisation can support local businesses.

The event takes place at the club in St Paul’s Square, beginning at 5.30pm.
