Local businesses unite for China launch of train crash software

TWO local businesses have worked together to launch an innovative new product in China.
Coventry-based Oleo International launched its new train crash simulation software Oleo 1D Rail in Shanghai at the CTRS trade show with the help of Leamington-based Comtec Translations.
Oleo 1D Rail was developed by Oleo International to provide train crash simulations that allow for specific trains to be modelled and various collision scenarios simulated, including train into train and train into terminal.
The software enables Oleo International to evaluate various energy absorption methods used in bolt-on devices, including buffers, anti-climbers and other crush elements when manufacturing railway buffers.
Oleo already has a manufacturing base in China, a country with reportedly close to 10,000km of rail investment and plans to expand the network to 50,000km by 2020.
Comtec Translations has been instrumental in helping to bring this software to the Chinese market by providing specialist technical translators to fully localise the software ready for launch. In addition, a Chinese website was set up to host the simulation software.
Oleo’s existing technical and marketing materials, including brochures and leaflets, were also translated into Chinese ready for Oleo to launch the software at CTRS in Shanghai.
Sandy Watson, marketing manager at Oleo International, said: “Currently there is nothing available on the market as advanced as Oleo 1D Rail for evaluating energy absorption methods with one dimensional simulations.
“With the support of Comtec we will be able to launch our new software worldwide in different languages at global trade shows and exhibitions. After a successful launch in Shanghai we are now looking forward to bringing Oleo 1D to markets worldwide.”
