Expansion supports growth for Stafford-based laser cutter SSC Laser

A MIDLAND engineering company has celebrated a strong second quarter with a record turnover of £700,000 during the period.

Laser cutter SSC Laser, which is based in Stafford, said much of its success was due to expansion.

The firm also has operations in Derby, Sunderland, Slough and Motherwell but it said much of the growth could be attributed to its recently established plant in Bristol.

The new site is already exceeding its targets and sales director Andy Evans said the decision to set up in the south west had proved the right one.

“The Bristol site has offered a really impressive service to companies who buy our laser engineered components, including flat laser profiles, folded laser profiles and tube laser components. The new Bristol site is not alone in its strong performance though, as all of our divisions are doing very well with another particularly noteworthy performance from our Scotland site,” he said.

The company now has its sights set on further expansion with another plant set to come on stream before the end of the year.

“We have plans for this facility to follow the same trajectory of growth as the previous facilities have, expanding from an initial two to three person sales office up to a 10-person production facility,” added Evans.

Since its establishment in 2000, the firm has grown substantially to be one of the largest sub contract laser profiling companies in the UK while maintaining its headquarters in Hixon.

The firm’s growth has been recognised by the Made in the Midlands manufacturing association.
