Castings specialist targets defence contracts to support growth

SHROPSHIRE-based casting company, Grainger & Worrall, is targeting growth by securing new work in the defence sector.

The Bridgnorth firm, which has exhibited before the Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology, Shropshire MP Philip Dunne, is looking at ways in which its technology could be utilised for military vehicles.

At the forefront of casting development and innovation, the firm honed the development of lighter, more durable, higher-performing components for specialist automotive, motorsport and other special duty vehicles. However, in recent years, these casting methods have evolved to meet the growing demands of the defence industry.

The firm said the defence sector continued to look at ways in which it could develop and maintain a fleet of vehicles capable of withstanding the rigours of frontline usage and occupant safety levels, while not driving up costs.

Grainger & Worrall provides its sand-casting services to numerous vehicle manufacturers which supply the MoD. Its key casted components are used in either structural or powertrain applications.  

The firm, established 60 years ago, employs around 400 people across its two sites in Bridgnorth and Telford.
