Edgbaston enjoys more cricketing success as t20 final is sold out

DESPITE missing out on an Ashes Test Match, Edgbaston Stadium is continuing to lure crowds eager to watch some top class cricket.

The Birmingham ground this year stages one of the showpiece events in the domestic cricket season – the Friends Life t20 Finals Day – and stadium authorities have confirmed that the event is now a sell-out, with the exception of the tickets allocated to the four winning counties from this week’s quarter finals.

The Edgbaston authorities will be hoping the event proves as successful as the ICC Champions Trophy tournament it staged earlier in the summer, although they will be hoping that the weather is kinder on finals day than it was for the trophy’s showpiece final which eventually saw England go down to India in a game reduced to 20 overs a side.

Each of the four counties that qualify for Finals Day will be allocated 1,100 tickets for its members and supporters. Any tickets that remain unsold by the clubs will go back on-sale on the Edgbaston website – www.edgbaston.com – at 9am on Saturday August 10.

Guy Wolfenden, Head of Commercial at Edgbaston, said: “Friends Life t20 Finals Day is arguably the biggest day of entertainment in the British sporting calendar, and we’re delighted to be hosting the event for the fifth time this year, as well as in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

“Whilst all remaining tickets are currently allocated to the four participating counties, we are building a reserve list so that we can inform supporters of any unsold tickets on Saturday morning.”

The Warwickshire club is also promoting various hospitality packages through its official hospitality partner, Keith Prowse. These start at £150 for an all-inclusive day.
