Cannock bar in with a sporting chance of glory

A STAFFORDSHIRE-based sports bar has made it through to the UK final of a hospitality sector competition recognising excellence within the pub industry.

Bar Sport Cannock has already won the title Best Sports Pub in 2013 for the West Midlands and Wales region as part of the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013.

The venue is now pressing its claim to be to the best in the UK, a decision which will be announced at the grand final of the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013, which take place on September 12 at the Hilton Hotel in London. The event is hosted by actor and comedian Greg Davies.

The awards, which are organised by industry magazine, the Morning Advertiser, will see the Cannock venue in competition with one of its franchises – Bar Sport Maidenhead – after the latter secured the southern regional title.

Scott Murray, founder and managing director of Bar Sport Franchise UK, said: “This is a very prestigious award which we have won in the past. It’s a great achievement to be recognised in this way and to be competing against the Bar Sport franchise in Maidenhead makes it even more special as it is just fantastic to have two venues in the grand final.”

Bar Sport will go head to head with five other regional winners for the UK title Best Sports Pub 2013 and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall title of Great British Pub of the Year.

As well as Maidenhead the company also has franchises in Wilmslow and Bromley with venues at Newbury, Watford and Livingston in Scotland set to open in the autumn.
