Edgbaston set for bumper pay-days as part of an Indian summer

INDIA will play two limited over internationals against England at Edgbaston next September, paving the way for two potentially lucrative pay-days for the cricket ground.
The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed the dates for the two games – which comprise a 50-over One Day International on Tuesday September 2 and a NatWest t20 (20-overs) International on Sunday September 7.
Colin Povey, chief executive of Edgbaston, said: “India have a huge following whenever they play at Edgbaston, and I’m sure England will be gunning for revenge for the six-run defeat in June’s ICC Champions Trophy Final when they meet again in Birmingham next September.
“Next year promises to be another great summer of cricket at Edgbaston, with the dates of an ODI between England and Sri Lanka and Finals Day of an extended domestic t20 competition set to be announced in the coming weeks.”
India’s last major tour of England and Wales came in 2011, when Edgbaston staged the third Test Match of the series to coincide with the official opening of the stadium’s new £32m South Stand.
The ECB has forecast strong demand for the tickets for next year’s games, which form part of a busy season of international cricket, including a five-match Test series against the sub-continent.
Tickets and membership details for matches at Edgbaston in 2014 are set to go on-sale later this month.
