Jaguar Land Rover close to deal on 470,000 sq ft warehouse

VEHICLE manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover is thought to be close to signing a deal to take possession of a massive warehouse facility in the West Midlands.

The company has spent the past few months scouring the region and beyond for a suitable base in which to store parts for its expansion programme.

According to website SHD Logistics JLR has now settled on the 470,000 sq ft DC4 unit at Prologis Park Midpoint, Minworth.

With the firm committed to a new Jaguar saloon and an expansion of its model range the need for a reliable supply chain and component distribution operation is paramount. As production volumes increase then so the take up of parts will rise exponentially.

The company’s ongoing expansion in the UK is underlined by its development of a new £0.5bn engine factory on the i54 site near Wolverhampton. The company has already announced it is double the size of the original factory.

The desperate need for space at its Jaguar facility in Castle Bromwich has seen it take over a former cinema site while talks are also well advanced to acquire the nearby Dunlop Motorsport tyre factory.

Reports had suggested the Indian-owned company was looking for a further site close to its existing manufacturing facilities in either the West Midlands or the North West, close to its Halewood plant.

Surveyor Montagu Evans, which has offices in London and Manchester, advised the company on the search.

Prologis Park Midpoint, which stretches across 65-acres, is home to Europa Worldwide Logistics, Kuehne+Nagel and The Pallet Network. The site lies to the north-east of Birmingham and benefits from easy access to the M6, M6 Toll and M42 – all vital links to Castle Bromwich, Solihull and to a lesser extent, Wolverhampton, home of the new engine plant.
