JLR executive to deliver University of Wolverhampton’s Crystal Lecture

JAGUAR Land Rover executive director Mike Wright is to deliver a keynote speech on improving British manufacturing at an event at the University of Wolverhampton.

The company is forging closer links with the city and its institutions due to the development of its new £0.5bn engine plant at the i54 site on the outskirts of the city.

The annual Crystal Lecture is organised jointly by the University of Wolverhampton Business School (UWBS) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). It is aimed at business people from the region and will cover issues such as how a brand can help and hinder leadership and the role of company values.

The lecture attracts major names from industry, who are encouraged to give their unique view on industry.

Mr Wright’s speech, entitled Making British Manufacturing Great Again, will look at the importance of investing in training and skills, question how Britain still has a clear skills deficit compared to other countries, highlight current issues about British economic growth.

It will also explore ways to remake the British manufacturing tradition.

Now in its 20th year, the Crystal Lecture takes place on Thursday, October 24, from 6pm, at the University of Wolverhampton’s MC Building, Stafford Street.

Anthea Gregory, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “The Business School is delighted that Mike agreed to give this year’s Crystal Lecture.

“The theme of the lecture has resonance as we look to regenerate manufacturing in the region and the interest in the developments at JLR means that the lecture is proving very popular.”
