Environmental engineering firm Dunton doubles profit after Finance Birmingham backing

A BIRMINGHAM-based environmental engineering company has more than doubled its operating profit and created more than 30 new jobs after receiving funding support from the city council’s finance arm.
Dunton Environmental, based in Perry Barr, received support from Finance Birmingham in 2011 and the funding has been key to the growth of the business.
Established in 2006, Dunton specialises in developing and implementing ground and water remediation solutions, working with the Environment Agency and other regulatory authorities to restore land back to its natural state and make it fit for purpose.
The company has received two lots of funding from Finance Birmingham – an initial £100,000 in August 2011 which was used for working capital purposes and a further £275,000 in November 2012 to support significant investment in people, plant and equipment, training and IT.
As a result, Dunton has been able to take on major new projects across the UK, working with brands including Vinci, Jaguar Land Rover and Transport for London and has already secured its order book for the next 12 months.
Neil Roe, founder and Managing Director, said: “The funding has helped the business to develop well beyond our initial expectations. Over the last two years we’ve been able to expand our workforce, develop specialist techniques in-house, and invest in new advanced equipment, which has given us the competitive edge we needed to secure a number of new high profile contracts.
“Alongside this, we are developing a waste treatment facility in Wolverhampton which will be activated later this year and we are looking at premises for a second office in London following the opportunities that have been opened up in the South East as a result of the investment.”
Sam Miller, Investment Executive at Finance Birmingham said: “Dunton Environmental operates a robust and viable business model with a strong management team. We are delighted that the funding has led to such a significant growth in such a short time period, and have no doubt that we will see many more great things to come out of the company over the following two years.”
