It’s all Greek to Birmingham Airport as airline announces Athens routes

BIRMINGHAM Airport has received a boost to its flight offering with an announcement that Greek airline Aegean Airlines is to launch a twice weekly service to Athens from next summer.
The services to the Greek capital with begin on June 10, 2014 and will operate on Tuesday and Saturdays.
The airline will be using 168-seat Airbus A320 aircraft and passengers will be offered a dual class configuration and full onboard service, which includes complimentary food and drink.
The airport is hoping the route proves popular with travellers seeking direct access to the Greek capital, as well those using it to continue their journey onwards to the Greek islands and mainland Greece.
William Pearson, Aviation Development Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “Athens is a fantastic addition to our route network as it will provide direct access to the Greek capital as well as to the hundreds of Greek Islands that are so popular with British tourists.
“Aegean Airlines is a new scheduled airline for Birmingham Airport, and as a Star Alliance member adds to the portfolio of airlines in this leading network of global carriers. We look forward to welcoming Aegean Airlines in June 2014.”
The airport said business class passengers and Gold card members would have access to the business lounge, while Gold card members will also be eligible for extra baggage allowance.
