Custard Factory stages Christmas with a difference at Digmas

BIRMINGHAM’S Custard Factory is to showcase the work of some of the city’s up and coming designers by staging a Christmas Fair with a difference.
The venue has also teamed up with British Street Food Award winners, Digbeth Dining Club, for the Digmas festival, which takes place between 10am-6pm on Saturday.
The event will feature a range of stalls selling one-of-a-kind handmade, vintage and modern clothes and gifts. It will showcase works by local designers and offer visitors the opportunity to sign up for one-off discounts at the Custard Factory’s independent shops.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy old world and rock ‘n’ roll glamour, with live music by pin-up trio The Glamophones, swing duo High Society, ‘40s vocal trio The Three Belles and a bespoke rock ‘n’ roll set by the Rebel Party Band.
The line-up also features a retro roller disco and a range of entertainment for targeted at all ages with street food, mulled wine and hot cocktails, rockabilly dancers, children and adult’s gift-making workshops and face-painting.
The award-winning Custard Factory is the centrepiece of the city’s creative quarter. It is home to one of the largest clusters of independent shops, selling products that cannot be found anywhere else in the city, including books and posters; vintage, indi and bespoke clothing; jewellery; art; homeware; music and sports and leisure equipment.
Also available will be offers on activities as diverse as makeovers and poker lessons.
Lucan Gray, owner and director of the Custard Factory, said “Digmas is designed for people who want a unique Christmas shopping experience, where they can buy one-of-a-kind or locally-made gifts and spend time with their family and friends – eating, drinking, listening to live music and learning to make all kinds of presents and decorations, from robots to festive fabric wreaths.
“In recent months, the Custard Factory has expanded its retail offering. Alongside our long-standing shops like Urban Village, Sara Preisler and Mr Bird’s Emporium, we’ve had a run of new openings. These include bike shop Urban Ride, Circa Fifties (a shrine to all the 50s/Rockabilly) and record stores Milque and Muhle and Left for Dead. Even for regular visitors there are new and different places to discover.”
