US coup for Shakespeares as it advises on £54m acquisition

BIRMINGHAM-based law firm Shakespeares has helped to advise on a £54m deal involving the acquisition of a UK software firm by a large US company.
Roy Botterill and Roger Harcourt led the team which advised NCR Corporation on the acquisition of Alaric Systems.
Shakespeares was appointed by NCR to ensure the smooth UK acquisition of London-based Alaric, a specialist in fraud detection and payment processing software.
The law firm said the deal was an important recognition of its capabilities by a major US client. The instruction to Shakespeares came directly from NCR’s headquarters in Atlanta. NCR has a turnover of around $5.7bn.
The 14-strong legal team working on the team were based out of Shakespeares’ offices in Leicester and Nottingham.
“This is an important message for Midlands advisers at the turn of the year,” said Botterill.
“It says that even the biggest world players can find the right advice here. To win this work we provided real-time deal guidance for our clients and made a big difference to the speed of the transaction.
“More work will come to Midlands firms like ours when clients are looking for value and commercial attitude.”
The team covered corporate, litigation, employment, commercial and real estate matters.
