Construction begins on trio of Solihull car showrooms

MCS Group is driving a £3m project to transform a former leisure site in Solihull into a trio of car showrooms.

The construction company, based at Claverdon in Warwickshire, has been appointed by Johnsons Cars to build three new car dealerships on the site of the former Dave and Busters family entertainment centre at Monkspath Leisure Park.

The existing buildings on the 46,000 sq ft site, which has been vacant for more than a decade, will be refurbished to provide showrooms for Volvo, Mazda and Volkswagon. The development, which is located just off the Stratford Road, will also include two workshops.

Redditch-based client Johnsons Cars, which currently has 28 dealerships across England – five of which are in Solihull – will be relocating the dealerships from elsewhere in the town to the new site.

Keir Edmonds, managing director of MCS Group, said: “We are delighted to be working on the new car dealerships, which will inject some much needed life back into a once thriving site in Solihull.”

Mike Berwick, operations director at Johnsons Cars, said: “Solihull has established a reputation as a top location for car retail. Following a successful year for UK car sales, we are looking forward to expanding and relocating three of our dealerships to the new site.”

MCS Group’s appointment was as a result of another construction company, Adonis, going into administration in the initial stages of the project.

The dealerships are due to be completed by April.
