Karting company revs up for growth with first West Midland circuit

KARTING company TeamSport is targeting Birmingham’s corporate events market following its acquisition of its first track in the West Midlands.

The company has taken over The Raceway in Oldbury and is now looking at attracting firms interested in team-building and leisure activities.

Following the acquisition of the track, TeamSports will rebrand and revamp the circuit in line with its other operations.

The company has seen the likes of One Direction and F1 stars old and new such as Mark Webber and Damon Hill race on its tracks.

Dom Gaynor, TeamSport managing director, said: “Karting is the most driving fun you can have off the pro circuit.  We’re looking to put a bit of gloss on the product.”
The Raceway acquisition brings the firm’s circuit portfolio up to 11, with more in the pipeline.

The Oldbury track is indoors and spans more than 1000m. It also features the largest section of elevated track in the UK and has an average lap time of 1 minute 1 second.  All drivers get to wear F1-style race suits and race in go-karts that can reach speeds of up to 40mph.

As well as increasing the popularity of go-karting, TeamSport said it was keen to nurture and support new racing talent in the UK as practically all of F1’s current drivers started on the karting circuit.

The firm said it frequently held local and national grand prix competitions and ran its own karting club where anybody could become a member.
