University commercial director named new president of Wolverhampton Chamber of Commerce

THE commercial director of the University of Wolverhampton Science Park has been appointed the new president of the Wolverhampton branch of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce.

Nigel Babb, a member of the chamber board for more than six years, has taken up the post after two years as vice president and succeeds Mike Priddy.

He has been an advocate of the benefits of developing stronger industry and academia links in order to increase skills levels and drive forward innovation.

“The chamber does some excellent work supporting businesses in the region at a local, national and international level.  I am delighted to be taking a leading position within the organisation and seeing the economy of Wolverhampton improve following on from well-known recent investments in the city area,” he said.

“No one else is going to make the improvements for us, it’s up to the chamber and its members to drive forward a better business environment for all.”

Babb was previously Director of Strategic Developments at the university and is also a director and vice-chairman of the UK IT Association.

His historical involvement with working with businesses for economic impact has also been reflected in the leading role he took in the development of the university’s successful e-Innovation Centre, a business incubator for newly-formed firms based at the Telford Innovation Campus and the recent opening of the Business and Technology Centre on the same campus.
