£30m revamp of Mander Centre moves closer

PLANS to redevelop Wolverhampton’s Mander Centre, which include the creation of a new Debenhams store, have taken a step forward, according to reports.

City planning chiefs meet next week to discuss the first phase of proposals for the £30m transformation of the shopping centre but the plans have been recommended for approval by planning officers.

Wolverhampton City Council’s planning committee is being asked to approve plans to demolish the part of the centre previously occupied by TJ Hughes and replace it with a new 93,000 sq ft Debenhams store.

The plans also include re-configuring ground floor units to create larger shops.

The Mander Centre is currently up for sale with a price tag of £50m.
