Dealmakers from DLA Piper in Birmingham advise on GE Betz acquisition

WELL-known Birmingham dealmaker Jim Lavery, from legal firm DLA Piper, led the firm’s team which advised US firm GE Betz on its acquisition of the UK’s Monsal.
No financial details have been disclosed.
GE Betz is a water treatment company based in Pennsylvania. Its core business involves the sale of water treatment chemicals designed to lengthen the lifespan of cooling towers, chillers, boilers, and other water dependent machines.
Mansfield-based Monsal is one of the UK’s leading advanced anaerobic digestion & integrated biogas to energy businesses.
The transaction enables GE Betz, which falls under the GE Power & Water arm, to provide customers with more energy-efficient options for water treatment solutions.
The acquisition will enable Monsal to take advantage of the benefits provided by GE’s global platform, including greater access to a wider consumer base and larger scale R&D capabilities.
DLA Piper’s Lavery – a corporate partner – was supported by partners Andrew Davies and Claire Bennett and associate Rosie Hendon, who is also based in the firm’s Birmingham office.
Lavery said: “This is a great strategic acquisition for GE Power & Water enabling them to globalise the anaerobic digestion expertise of the Monsal team.”
