Karndean tees off in support of children’s hospital

EVESHAM-based Karndean Designflooring has raised £5,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital as part of its charity golf day.

Joined by more than 100 retailers, contractors and suppliers, the company hosted its annual charity golf day at Hilton Puckrup Hall Hotel and Golf Club in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

On the day, attendees including Uzin, Horwich Carpets and C&C Flooring, were given the opportunity to take part in a longest drive, nearest the pin and hole-in-one competition.

The money was successfully raised from donations and a live charity auction.

The firm’s managing director Paul Barratt said: “We are delighted to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital by raising vital funds to support the lifesaving work they offer as a centre of paediatric excellence in the UK.

“It’s a great event for building relationships with our customers and suppliers, but at the same time an opportunity for us to raise awareness and funds for a charity close to our hearts.”

Briggs Equipment gets fundraising for Parkinson’s UK

STAFF at Cannock materials handling services specialist Briggs Equipment are aiming to dream up inventive and fun-filled ways to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, which is the company’s chosen charity for 2014/15.

Each year employees stage a company-wide vote to nominate a charity and then organise a variety of events and activities to fundraise in support of their vital work.

Michelle Davies, service supervisor at the firm, said, “Parkinson’s UK is very close to my heart due to my mother getting diagnosed several years ago, so I have first-hand experience of the devastating effects of the condition and how it can impact on quality of life.

“I nominated this charity to Briggs Equipment to help raise awareness of Parkinson’s, as well as to help raise the profile of the charity.”

Typically, the firm’s fundraising events feature themed events including golf days, ‘dress down’ days and raffles, plus individual sponsored activities such as cycle rides and half marathons. Every penny raised by Briggs Equipment’s staff will support Parkinson’s UK’s vital work.

Dudley auctioneers set to run for Cure Leukaemia

THREE employees of Dudley-based Aston’s Auctioneers are running for Birmingham-based blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia in the Bupa Great
Birmingham Run this year.

Owner Chris Aston and his two employees Andy Sagar and Richard Price will be pounding the 13.1 mile course on Sunday October 19th, raising money for the charity as they do so.

Cure Leukaemia want to double participation and funds raised from the 2013 Great Birmingham Run when the charity had 455 runners and raised £125,000.

This year Cure Leukaemia would like 1,000 runners to help raise £250,000, a figure that would be worth £2.5m in potentially life-saving drugs for leukaemia patients around the region.

Aston said, “I’m really looking forward to it. I know the great work Cure Leukaemia are doing to help patients around the West Midlands and as a proud Black Country lad I am keen to help raise some money and awareness for the charity.”

Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster to support Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer

THE Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer charity will receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support from Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster.

The charity raises money for Queen Elizabeth Hospital for patient care that the NHS is unable to fund.

So far it has donated equipment to the hospital worth more than £1m.

The Kidderminster store raised  £14,000 last year for charity partner Severn Area Rescue Association, which has enabled them to train more volunteers and buy equipment for this life-saving river rescue team.

Sainsbury’s PR ambassador Helen Bower said:  “We will now be working closely with the charity over the next 12 months to ensure they really benefit from the local charity partnership.”
