Genting Arena gets off to a flying start as Take That confirm extra date

THE soon-to-be rebranded NEC Arena is set for a bumper pay-day after announcing an extra date to Take That’s sell-out 2015 UK tour.
The concert venue, whose sponsorship agreement with LG expires at the end of the year ahead of its handover to Genting, was deluged with calls for tickets when news of the tour broke several weeks ago.
Tickets for the May 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16 performances sold out within minutes, prompting an extra date of June 22.
Promoters have now confirmed an extra date for June 23. Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Thursday (December 11).
The shows will be an opportunity for new sponsor Genting to market both the concert venue and its new Resorts World complex, which is immediately adjacent to the arena and due to open next spring.
Take That are the UK’s most successful live act ever although their recent appearances in the West Midlands have been at outside venues such as Villa Park and Coventry’s Ricoh Arena. They last played the NEC in 2009.
Four years since the band’s last record-breaking tour, 2015’s Progress Live, will see the band perform for the first time as a trio. The line-up comprising Mark Owen, Gary Barlow and Howard Donald.
“Take That are defined by some of the most memorable and spectacular live productions in UK music history and their fans can now look forward to seven magical nights at the Genting Arena,” said the NEC Group in a statement.
“Previous tours have included everything from aerialists, circus performers, a wall of water, holograms, a giant elephant and on the last tour a 60ft robot. The band’s shows have never failed to excite and surprise their audience and next year’s are sure to be no exception.”
Tickets for the Genting Arena are priced at £61.20, £65.60 (standing), £72.20 & £94.20 (includes admin fee & £0.70 renovation levy) + £2.95. They are available from www.theticketfactory.com or 0844 338 8000.
