Press Club pledges to recognises young talent through new awards

THE inaugural Midlands Media Students Awards, which have been established to honour the cream of the region’s emerging young journalists, will take place in Birmingham in April.

Ed James, chairman of Birmingham Press Club, which is staging the event as part of its 150th anniversary year celebrations, said: “Regional universities and colleges offering media courses have been very supportive and thanks to their commitment we are hoping that the Awards will become an annual fixture in our calendar.”

He said he was also “indebted” to the region’s media for providing internships for winners of the Awards’ 12 categories.

“Without their support, the Awards would not have been possible,” he said.

Those short-listed for the awards will be announced shortly after judging by a panel of senior journalists and academics. Categories include subjects such as business, sport, entertainment, fashion, lifestyle and technology.

Tickets for the Awards ceremony, which is to be held at The Studio in Cannon Street, on Tuesday, April 14 are available at £24 for students, while standard tickets are priced at £42 each. Both prices are inclusive of VAT.

Tickets may be booked by logging onto http://www.midlandsmediaawards.co.uk/
