Local SME named joint winner of Chinese export award

A SOLIHULL firm has been named as joint-winner of the UKTI-sponsored GREAT British Product award at a gala dinner in Beijing.

Solihull-based Koolmill Systems – which has created a revolutionary milling system for rice and other grains – saw off stiff competition to win the award at The British Business Awards in Beijing.

Koolmill managing director Alec Anderson said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition and proud to represent UK Engineering improving the world.

“Given the caliber of our fellow finalists, including supercar maker McLaren Automotive, we are particularly pleased to fly the flag for SMEs – perhaps proof that you don’t have to be JLR or JCB to operate in China.”

Koolmill identified the need for a new technological approach to cereal milling and has pioneered the development of a radical disruptive technology set to transform a massive, globally significant industry.

The firm has worked closely with its Chinese joint venture partners to perfect the low-power, simpler Koolmill process which brings potentially zero emission technology to all millers regardless of size or location.

Koolmill won the Innovator category in TheBusinessDesk.com’s West Midlands Business Masters Awards 2013. This year’s awards have now been launched. Information about how to enter and sponsorship opportunities can be found in the launch story here.
