Flybe scraps services out of Birmingham Airport

AIRLINE Flybe is to axe five flights from its roster of services from Birmingham Airport.

Services to Oslo, Porto, Toulouse, Ireland West in County Mayo and Waterford have all been scrapped while services to Hamburg and Perpignan have also been cancelled. The latter two are serviced by other airlines operating out of Birmingham.

It is thought the services were not proving viable for the operator.

It is hoping that new services for the 2015 programme such as those to Biarritz and Corsica will prove more popular with travellers.

The airline remains the largest in terms of passenger volumes using the airport but the loss of flights is a blow to the transport hub as it looks to verify itself as a viable regional airport.

The airport is understood to be in talks with other operators to try and continue servicing the five destinations. However, it has said the impact of the cancellations will be minimal.

Flybe will continue to operate 24 routes out of Birmingham and fly the same number of aircraft. It is adding more capacity on popular routes such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Edinburgh and Stuttgart.
