Parliamentary candidates set to be quizzed by business leaders

BUSINESSES in Warwickshire are being given the opportunity to quiz the parliamentary candidates for the area.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce is staging events across the city and the county to enable businesspeople to ask questions of their prospective MPs and also put across their own views.

The first event in the programme has already taken place in Rugby and saw Mark Pawsey (Conservative), Claire Edwards (Labour) and Gordon Davies (UKIP) all being quizzed. The event at Brownsover Hall was hosted by the chamber’s Rugby branch and chaired by president Jim Griffin.

That was followed by an event at the offices of Stewart Fletcher Barrett in Nuneaton with Marcus Jones (Conservative), Victoria Fowler (Labour) and Keith Kondakor (Green), chaired by Paul Carvell, the chair of the chamber’s north Warwickshire branch committee.

A further four events are scheduled around the region and Peter Burns, the chamber president, said the programme had got off to a strong start.

He said: “We are travelling around Coventry and Warwickshire to meet candidates across all of our branch areas and it is very interesting to hear the different viewpoints on how they feel they can assist business.”

The remaining events are:

Stratford – February 20, The Arden Hotel, 1pm-3pm

Bedworth & North Warwickshire – February 23, The Belfry, 1pm-2.30pm

Coventry – February 27, Chamber House, 8am-9.30am

Kenilworth & Southam – March 6, Holiday Inn, Kenilworth, 8am-9.30am
