February sales dip for Jaguar Land Rover

VEHICLE producer Jaguar Land Rover saw a decline in its long running sales success, new figures have shown.

The company, the UK’s leading manufacturer of premium luxury vehicles, has been used to a relatively unbroken spell of success in recent years.

However, figures released by Indian parent Tata Motors shows the company sold 28,689 vehicles around the world in February – compared with 30,487 vehicles sold in the same month in 2014.

Land Rover sold 24,185 vehicles in February, down 1,002 units and Jaguar retailed 4,504 cars, down 796 units.

In a statement, Tata said the decline had been expected.

It said:  “Against the background of growing demand for the Jaguar and Land Rover brands, this expected change in sales is largely due to the run out of the Land Rover Freelander model and the company’s product launch plans, which will see the introduction of new models in the coming months.”

The latest of these comes in a few weeks with the launch of the new Jaguar XE saloon, a entry level executive which should herald a return to the volume market for Jaguar.

Commenting on February’s performance, Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover Group Sales Operations Director said:  “The Range Rover achieved its best ever February performance this month, with sales of 4,310 vehicles. This was also the case for the Jaguar F-Type, which retailed 795 vehicles in February. With sales underway for the Discovery Sport and soon to begin for the Jaguar XE, we are excited to see the success of our ever-evolving product portfolio.”
