New Jaguar saloon wins first award even before it goes on sale
JAGUAR’S new small saloon, the XE, has picked up its first UK award – even before the car is officially launched for sale.
The XE has been named Best Large Car in the 2015 Diesel Car Magazine Awards, a significant achievement as it beat off tough competition from the car likely to be its main rival, the BMW 3 Series.
Equally significant, it fended off the challenge of Ford’s Mondeo which has had its specification improved to try and make it a match for the entry level executives put out by BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and now Jaguar.
The judges in the Diesel Car awards praised the XE’s competitive pricing, beautiful looks, classy cabin, low CO2 emissions and its sporty driving dynamics.
Editor Ian Robertson said: “With a thrilling driving experience that enthusiasts yearn for and class-leading emissions, Jaguar has taken on the Germans and beaten them at their own game.”
The Jaguar XE is the only car in its class to feature a lightweight aluminium-intensive monocoque which, combined with Jaguar Land Rover’s efficient new Wolverhampton-manufactured Ingenium diesel engines, helps it to deliver a claimed fuel economy of 75mpg and emissions as low as 99g/km CO2.
The car officially arrives in the showrooms next month, with prices starting from £26,990.
