Solid State secures semiconductor contract

WORCESTERSHIRE electronics firm, Solid State has secured a contract worth in excess of £1m to supply programmed semiconductor devices for use in Renishaw’s metrology products.
The AIM listed supplier of specialist industrial/ruggedised computers, electronic components, secure communications systems and battery power solutions, said the contract award had been made to its components division, Solid State Supplies.
It said the contract, which will be delivered over the next 12 months, was secured as a result of Solid State Supplies having a certified in-house programming department and it being able to streamline Renishaw’s manufacturing process. This value added process enables Renishaw to import the component directly onto the manufacturing line without having to undertake any pre-programming, therefore saving considerable time and effort.
John Macmichael, managing director of Solid State Supplies, said: “Renishaw have always been viewed as innovators in precision manufacturing. It is very pleasing to have been brought into their supply chain through recognition of our own initiatives in component supply.”
The Redditich-based firm is also home to the Steatite operation.
