Second city sun worshippers get first class cover at Bar Opus

AS Birmingham prepares for another day of soaring temperatures, one city centre restaurant is offering sweltering office workers a safe haven from the sun – should they want it.
Staff working at Bar Opus at One Snowhill spent yesterday handing out an array of colourful sunglasses, hats and sunscreen to customers enjoying their new outside terrace.
With temperatures expected to peak towards 30° today, staff are expected to be busy once again as the second city’s sun worshippers look to make the most of the heatwave.
Irene Allan, director at Opus, said: “We are pretty sure this is one of the sunniest spots to enjoy a cool drink or refreshing cocktail in Birmingham, but this week we noticed many people had forgotten their sunglasses and hats, along with their sunscreen. We wanted to make sure everyone could enjoy the rays with their friends safely. So we now have a selection of them all for our customers to borrow when they come to the bar and make the most of this glorious weather while it lasts.
“We’re pretty sure that there will be a fair amount of larking about, that’s what happens when you give props to people in a bar, but if that results in people taking some proper sun protection, then our little sunshine project has done its job.”
