Overbury appointed on Vox conferencing centre at Resort World

FIT-out specialist Overbury has been appointed as main contractor on the conferencing element of the £200m Resort World Birmingham scheme.
The Birmingham-based central region team is responsible for the delivery of the Vox conferencing centre at the Resort World Birmingham, which is currently under construction next to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC).
Resort World Birmingham is being developed by leisure giant Genting UK while the Vox is the latest addition to NEC Group’s conferencing portfolio in the Midlands, which already includes the NEC and the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham city centre.
Julian Lebray, managing director of Overbury’s central region, said: “This is a landmark project for Overbury that will take conferencing in the Midlands to new heights.
“This is a complex and challenging project as the Vox is being developed as part of the much larger Resorts World Birmingham scheme. We have been working hard with the other consultants and contractors to ensure the project remains on schedule and open for business later this year.”
The Vox will offer five purpose-built meeting suites that can accommodate anything from a small seminar or meeting for just a few people to a banquet for 850 or a conference for 900 delegates.
In addition, it will have boardrooms and a foyer area overlooking Pendigo Lake.
The conferencing halls will feature five metre high ceilings with bespoke lighting rigs that can be height adjusted for different occasions and the rooms will be separated by the largest vertical folding wall installation in the UK.
Nick Waight, managing director, group convention centres at NEC Group, said: “This is a landmark project for NEC Group working with such an important partner in Genting UK to support their major investment at the NEC so it has been critical that we have had a company like Overbury on board to ensure the work is delivered on budget and on time and to the exacting quality that will make this the most talked about conferencing facility anywhere in the UK.”
