Birmingham logistics firm expands into Eastern Europe

BIRMINGHAM-based logistics group International Forwarding is expanding into Eastern Europe by setting up new distribution services to Bulgaria and Romania.

The extension has been made possible by the company’s membership of Palletways, Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network.

The expansion means that International Forwarding will now be able to deliver to 20 European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Spain, Slovakia and the UK.

Rob Pike, depot principal at International Forwarding, said: “The addition of Romania and Bulgaria to the network is excellent news for both Palletways and International Forwarding and will open up new market opportunities, which will benefit us and our customers.”

Luis Zubialde, managing director for Palletways (UK), said the group’s  expansion into the Black Sea countries meant it could now deliver to more European destinations than any other pallet network.

The new service will be supported by a pan-European IT platform and central customer service operation based in Madrid.

The Palletways’ pan-European network continues to grow and today handles more than 30,000 pallets across Europe every day. Cross border volume growth is predicted to reach 50% this year.

The group, which recently added Poland and the Baltic states to its operations, said it was still looking to further develop its geographical footprint in Hungary, Switzerland and the Nordic countries.
